male lyricists in the Hindi film industry were inspired by the most famous
beloved in Punjabi folklore, but on this occasion, it was a lady – Dipti Misra
– who was inspired by the heroine of Waris Shah’s tragic romance.
The
involvement of Malini Awasthi in the song wasn’t restricted to rendering it,
but she was also one of the three who composed it.
