In the 16th century, saint-poetess Mirabai wrote a devotional poem, titled Saanson Ki Mala Pe.
And in 1979,
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan performed it as a song at the wedding of actors Neetu
Singh and the late Rishi Kapoor during his maiden visit to India.
The big-screen
adaptations were inevitable.
One of them
featured on the soundtrack of the 1997 film Koyla.
And the other –
which was a Sachet Tandon solo on the soundtrack of Yaariyan 2 – wasn’t
just penned, but also composed by Manan Bhardwaj.
The song was four
minutes and 18 seconds long.
